Many people still haven’t heard of “human composting.” If they have, maybe they think it’s strange or even kinda icky. But when they hear from people with an intimate understanding of the process, a term that once made them squeamish starts to make perfect sense.

Earth Funeral wanted to share the stories of families and individuals who have found profound comfort in the soil transformation process. Through interviews with people who will undergo human composting in the future, and those whose loved ones have been returned to the Earth, we shifted the narrative to the great variety of reasons to make this choice. Their stories shed light on the many positive impacts of returning to nature at the end of our lives.
